About Me

Ancestra, The Vino Theater 2022
Hi, I'm Maggie!
I am an NYC-based director and theatre artist, investigating how desire and fear drive us to make the decisions we do. I am interested in humanizing morally grey characters and untangling their complicated relationships with themselves and others. My artistic goal is to make even the most mundane moments explode on stage through precise and active staging. With everything I direct, I am always asking, “how can this moment be made the most exciting for the live performance medium?”
Coming from a background in Devised Theatre and Playwriting, I primarily direct new work because I am thrilled by the untapped questions and endless possibilities when an audience has no preconceived notions. My rehearsal rooms are highly collaborative, a place for taking creative risks, and an open space for vulnerability. I love to dig into real-life events connected to a play and utilize this research in the rehearsal room.
My voice as a director is inspired by Riot Grrrl, an underground feminist punk movement, because my work is often girl-centered, opinionated, and unmediated by the male gaze. In pursuit of confronting humanity's deepest flaws and vulnerabilities, I tackle difficult and uncomfortable topics unapologetically.
I search for exhilarating reveals in every production I direct; including revelation of space, a sudden shift in relationship dynamics, or an unexpected design element. When a theatrical moment has me on the edge of my seat, that's when I know I have succeeded. I do this by exploding small moments of character tension and heightening beat shifts in the story arc.
I hold my BA in Directing from Pace University's Sands College of Performing Arts where I was also a member of the International Performance Ensemble. Other passions include crafting, petting dogs, and trying new restaurants around .
